At Eastney Fort East, Portsmouth the PFS Saturday work team has begun work to re-model the gun positions. The first is at C on the plan. This is for a 64pdr. RML gun on a blocked up D pivot platform. We have cleared the firing step on the west flank and are also clearing the southern gun embrasure at H for a 64pr RML on a standing garrison carriage.
The Director of The Royal Marines Museum Eastney hopes to open the fort to visitors on completion of the project. The parade will be used for re-enactments and military vehicle displays during special events. The fort will form part of the museum's interpretation of the history of the Royal Marine Artillery, men from which were to garrison the fort during the Victorian period of active use. In 1906 the fort was upgraded by the addition of a single 6-inch HP disappearing gun. It is hoped that a replica of this gun, together with a 64pr. RML on a standing garrison carriage will be manufactured to display in the fort.
