He writes:
I have a personal interest in the Victorian period as regards to the various wars and campaigns and the military of the time.  Recently I set up a new forum called the Victorian Wars Forum for like minded people to join and discuss/learn about this period.
My forum is completely free, non-profit (the financial
burden falls on myself only) and open to anyone who has an interest.
There are no adverts or commercial links and never will be.

Fort Halstead
Fort Halstead, Sevenoaks Kent.
halstead.jpg
The PFS has been invited by the developer of Fort Halstead to participate in the decision making process for the development of the Fort. Four members of the PFS will be visiting the fort soon.
The developer is Hines Uk Ltd. The site is to have accommodation for a mixture of uses – leisure, ecology, education, housing and employment space – of which the latter two will range in size and price. This will facilitate a community of all ages and incomes that meets the aspirations of modern lifestyles whilst embracing and harnessing the distinctive setting, history and tradition and offering a leading response to the growing need to meet the sustainable agenda – economically, socially and environmentally.

Following further consultation and the development of the proposals for Fort Halstead over the Spring and Summer, Hines is aiming to submit a planning application for Fort Halstead in the Autumn 2008.

Details of the proposals, together with a document called A Vision for Fort Halstead can be downloaded from the following website:

Maltese Cavalry
Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna are hoping to add more horses to the two they currently have. Their aim is  a 12 horse formation.

Cavalry_charge.jpg
FWA will be premiering the cavalry element of its re-enactment team with a number of horse-mounted troops representing mounted infantry from the late 19th century. These will give a display of military horsemanship skills illustrating how they fought on horseback, using a whole myriad of period weaponry from the sword to the lance. The public will be offered a rare insight into the art and skill of 19th century military sword fighting. An expert in the field will provide a short interactive lecture on the subject using different examples of swords in use at the time. A sword fighting team will show how they fought with the different weapons. More details here: Malta Independent News

Coalhouse Fort
Volunteers at Coalhouse Fort are busy producing rope mantlets for their casemated gun positions. Not an easy task! Later this year Ian Donald, Conservation Officer, will visit Williamstown in Australia to view the 9-inch RML on its original carriage and platform. Coalhouse Fort hopes to replicate the mounting in order to put a replica in place. Its a shame that we do not have an original in England.

The fort has also been busy reproducing iron shutters, with the help of local blacksmiths David and Alan Theobald.
