Previous projects at Fort Nelson have included the restoration of two expense magazines and fittings on the West rampart, the reinstating of the gravel surface to the re-enactement area on the West rampart, the forming of the firing step adjacent to the 64pr R.M.L.position, the restoration of a small laboratory adjacent to the main magazine beneath the parade and restoration of the shifting lobby to the main magazine.
We are currently working on two restoration projects at Fort Nelson.
The first one is the restoration of another gun position on the West rampart next to the West Haxo casemate. This will eventually receive a siege carriage on a Double Decked siege platform for the PAV to drill on and and display to the public.
The second is the re-instatement of emplacement and gun group markings on the west
rampart adjacent for the 64pr R.M.L. and 7-inch R.B.L. positions. This forms part of the PAV
re-enactment area. Eventually we intend to restore all of the gravel
surface from the West Haxo casemate to the top of the west ramp. During the Spring of 2007 we re-painted the 64pr R.M.L. gun and carriage. Autumn 2007 we began re-profiling the sides of the expense nagazines on the west face of the north rampart.
In February 2008 we began restoration of a 64pr RML garrison carriage, to be mounted on a double-decked platform on the west rampart at Fort Nelson. This will add another demonstration piece for the PAV to fire.
We always welcome additional workers on our Saturday Morning work parties.
